Endangering the Welfare of Children and DUI

On January 11, 2021 Sugarcreek Borough Police initiated traffic stop with a vehicle for speeding and a lighting violation in the 100 block of Front Street.

While speaking to the driver officers noted multiple outward signs on impairment. The driver was asked to step from the vehicle and performed poorly on field sobriety testing. She was summarily taken into custody for the suspicion of DUI.

The driver, Elizabeth Rodgers, 32 of Franklin, had her two children in the vehicle at the time. At one point a Sugarcreek officer had to remove playdoh from the mouth of the 2 year old as she appeared to be choking.

Rodgers blood results returned from NMS Labs showing that she had operated a motor vehicle while impaired on fentanyl.

Rodgers was charged with DUI and Endangering the Welfare of Children.

Rodgers turned herself in once advised of the charges and was arraigned before Magistrate Lowrey. She was released on $15,000 unsecured bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 3, 2021.
