Work to construct a multimodal trail project along Route 62/8 (Allegheny Boulevard) in the City of Franklin and Sugarcreek Borough in Venango County is expected to start next week.
The safety improvement project focuses on the section of roadway from the intersection with Elk Street in the City of Franklin to the intersection with Front Street in Sugarcreek Borough.
Work will include the construction of the multi-use trail along the west side of the roadway and related pedestrian safety improvements. The project also calls for updated drainage and pavement markings, as well as increasing turning radius at the intersection with Front Street.
Work is expected to start April 3, 2023, weather permitting, on the Elk Street end of the project. The project is scheduled to be completed during the 2023 construction season.
Pedestrians access to the section of trail north of the bridge will be limited throughout the project. A daytime shuttle service will be available through Crawford Area Transportation Authority (CATA). Riders will need to board the transit shuttle at Sanders Market/Transfer Hub on Buffalo Street in Franklin and will be driven to the stop at Giant Eagle in Sugarcreek Borough and back. The Intercity Regional Route times will be used for travel from Sanders to Giant Eagle and the Franklin In-Town Route times will be used for travel from Giant Eagle back to Sanders Market. Southbound motorists may encounter some lane restrictions as needed throughout the project.
The contractor is M&B Services of Clarion, PA. The contract cost is $2,285,471, which is to be paid with combination of state and federal funds.
