On May 19, 2022 at approximately 3:07 PM Sugarcreek Borough Police responded to a two vehicle crash that occurred in the 1200 block of Allegheny Blvd.
Upon arrival officers noted a grey Toyota had struck the rear of a box truck at a medium to high speed. The driver of the Toyota suffered what appeared to be minor injuries while the driver of the box truck received no injuries.
The driver of the Toyota stated that she had not seen the box truck that had been broken down in the roadway. The driver who was later identified as Naomi Dechant, 33 of Franklin, was taken to UPMC for treatment and later released. Through the course of investigation officers determined that Naomi Dechant had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance.
Officers requested Ms. Dechant submit to a chemical test of blood. Naomi Dechant refused when asked to consent. A search warrant was requested and subsequently granted. The lab results returned and showed that Naomi Dechant had operated a motor vehicle while under the influence of methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Naomi Dechant was charged with the following:
Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance Schedule 2 – 1 count – Misd.
Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) – 1 count – Misd.
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 1 count – Misd.
Driving Vehicle at Safe Speed – 1 count – Summary
Charges were filed through Magistrate Lowrey’s office.
