On July 15, 2021 at 1:34 pm Sugarcreek Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling 55 mph in a posted 35 mph zone on Front Street.
Upon contact with the driver, Dakota Mellring, 18 of Franklin, the strong odor or marijuana was noted. A bag of marijuana was noted on the passenger floor in plain view. Mellring showed multiple outward signs of impairment and performed poorly on Field Sobriety testing and was taken into custody for DUI.
Officers impounded the vehicle to get a search warrant for the vehicle due to the evidence noted in plain sight. Once the search warrant was obtained officers recovered the following:
Smith and Wesson pistol with the serial number removed, 400.5 grams GW of THC wax, 196.2 grams GW of marijuana, 75.2 grams GW of cocaine, 57.6 grams GW of mushrooms, as well as digital scales, money, and other items of paraphernalia.
Dakota Mellring was charged with the following:
Possession of a Firearm with Altered Manufacturer’s Serial Number – Felony 2 (1 count)
Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License – Felony 3 (1 count)
Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance – Felony (3 counts)
Prohibited Offensive Weapons – Misdemeanor (1 count)
Driving While Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance – Misdemeanor (1 count)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (1 count)
And other traffic summary offenses
Mellring was arraigned before Judge Kirtland on July 23, 2021 at 9:30 am and released on $15,000 unsecure bail.
