On September 23, 2023 Sugarcreek Borough Police while on patrol noted a motor vehicle failing to dim its high beams and that also had inoperative lighting. A traffic stop was initiated with the vehicle at 9:36 PM.
Upon approach of the driver officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage about the driver as well as outward signs of impairment. The driver, Nathan Scott Schiffer, 24 of Franklin, was asked to step from the vehicle for field sobriety testing.
Nathan Schiffer performed poorly on all field sobriety tests. Schiffer made a subsequent refusal when asked to submit to chemical testing of his blood. A search warrant was obtained and a specimen was collected and sent to the lab for testing.
Blood results showed that Nathan Schiffer had operated a motor vehicle while impaired from marijuana and alcohol.

Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance- Misdemeanor
Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance and Alcohol – Misdemeanor
Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol – Misdemeanor
Other summary traffic offenses.
Charges were filed through Magistrate Kirtland’s office.
