When conditions improve, PennDOT will remove the travel restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>The following restrictions are effect as of 7:30 AM on Friday, Jan. 19, in the Northwest Region in accordance with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penndot.gov\/TravelInPA\/Winter\/Documents\/CMV-Restriction-Tier-Information-Sign.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the commonwealth\u2019s weather event vehicle restriction plan<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interstate 79:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tier 2 vehicle restriction from the I-80 interchange in Mercer County to the West Virginia state border.<\/li>\n<li>45 mph speed reduction with commercial vehicles not covered by the Tier 2 restriction allowed in the right lane only from the I-80 interchange in Mercer County to the I-376 interchange in Allegheny County.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Interstate 80: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tier 1 vehicle restriction from the Ohio state border to the New Jersey state border.<\/li>\n<li>45 mph speed reduction with commercial vehicles not covered by the Tier 1 restriction allowed in the right lane only from the starting point in Mercer County to the ending point in Allegheny County.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Interstate 376: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tier 2 vehicle restriction for the entire length of the highway from Mercer County to Allegheny County.<\/li>\n<li>45 mph speed reduction with commercial vehicles not covered by the Tier 2 restriction allowed in the right lane only from Exit 5 (Route 208, New Wilmington\/Pulaski) in Lawrence County to the ending point in Allegheny County.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Check <a href=\"http:\/\/www.511PA.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.511PA.com<\/a> for additional information on restrictions throughout in place throughout the state.<\/p>\n<p>Restrictions are communicated via variable message boards, the 511PA traveler information website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.511PA.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.511PA.com<\/a> and smartphone apps. Motorists can also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.511pa.com\/personalAlerts\/(S(4ykbpzzs2ib5u2tlsum2iagf))\/newUser.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sign up for alerts<\/a> on the website.<\/p>\n<p>Under <strong>Tier 1 restrictions<\/strong>, the following vehicles are <strong>not permitted<\/strong> on affected roadways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tractors without trailers.<\/li>\n<li>Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers.<\/li>\n<li>Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers.<\/li>\n<li>Enclosed unloaded or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks\/box trucks that meet the definition of a CMV.<\/li>\n<li>Passenger vehicles (cars, SUV\u2019s, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers.<\/li>\n<li>Recreational vehicles\/motorhomes.<\/li>\n<li>School buses, commercial buses and motor coaches.<\/li>\n<li>Motorcycles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On roadways with <strong>Tier 2 restrictions<\/strong> in place, vehicles prohibited under Tier 1 are not permitted, as well as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Commercial vehicles towing loaded tandem trailers without chains or Alternate Traction Devices (ATDs).<\/li>\n<li>All loaded or unloaded school buses, commercial buses, and motor coaches regardless of the availability of chains or ATDs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although PennDOT crews will be treating roadways as needed, the department\u2019s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow.
