On August 8, 2023 at approximately 1:10 PM the Sugarcreek Borough Police Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of Shaffer Run Rd for the report of a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival the officer spoke with persons on the scene and the driver of the vehicle, Thomas Moffett, 51 of Oil City.
The officer noted multiple outward signs of impairment being exhibited from Thomas Moffett who stated that he didn’t remember the last few miles of roadway driving. Thomas Moffett was checked by EMT’s on the scene and refused medical treatment.
Sugarcreek Borough Police conducted field sobriety testing on Moffett and noted poor performance on all the tests. Thomas Moffett was transported to UPMC Northwest for a blood draw. The results of the blood test showed that Thomas Moffett had operated a motor vehicle while under the combined influence of methamphetamine, amphetamine, and marijuana.
Thomas Moffett was charged with the following:
Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance (Schedule 1) – Misdemeanor 1
Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance (Schedule 2) – Misdemeanor 1
Careless Driving and Roadways Laned for Traffic – Summary Offenses
