On April 26, 2025 Sugarcreek Borough Police initiated a traffic stop for an expired PA registration. Upon driver contact the odor or burnt marijuana and outward signs of impairment were noted. During the traffic stop marijuana and paraphernalia were recovered in plain view. The driver was asked to step from the vehicle and performed field sobriety testing.
The driver, Tristin Smith, 21 of Kennerdell, performed poorly on field sobriety testing and was summarily taken into custody.
Lab results showed that Tristin Smith operated a motor vehicle while under the influence of marijuana.
Tristin Smith was charged with the following:
Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance Schedule 1 – Misdemeanor 1 (Juvenile present and in vehicle)
Possession of Marijuana – Misdemeanor
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Misdemeanor
Summary traffic offenses
Charges were filed through Judge Marwood’s office.
