Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police, Racing on Highways

The Sugarcreek Borough Police would like to thank the community for the information about the vehicles racing on Allegheny Blvd. on June 4, 2024.

On June 4, 2024 the Sugarcreek Borough Police noted two vehicles traveling south on Allegheny Blvd in the 1900 block that were racing on the highway in a reckless manner. Sugarcreek Borough Police attempted to stop the vehicles involved in the racing on the highways. A white Nissan Altima continued to accelerate and flee refusing to respond to the audible and visual signals of law enforcement accelerating away from police. The driver continued to drive in a more aggressive manner to elude the police. The driver ran multiple red lights, crossed divided highway into oncoming traffic, drove onto a sidewalk to evade police, wove in and out of traffic at high rates of speed, and multiple other dangerous and unsafe acts. These actions almost caused several accidents that were potentially catastrophic.

These actions resulted in a short pursuit that was voluntarily terminated by Sugarcreek Borough Police due to the congested areas and based on the safety concern for the public and the aggressive and erratic driving by the white Nissan Altima involved.

The information that witnesses were able to gather and pass onto the Sugarcreek Borough Police lead to the positive identification of the driver of the white Nissan Altima.

Eric Lawson, 33, was charged with the following:
Fleeing or attempting to Elude a Police Officer – Felony 3 (1 count)
Racing on Highways, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Driving While Suspended or Revoked, and other summary traffic violations.
