A Sugarcreek Borough resident called the Department with concerns over a possible phone scam.
Resident had received two phoen calls on January 23rd and 24th, 2020, in which no number showed up on the caller id. The phone calls alerted the resident that he had won the Mega Millions and a Cadillac. Both times the resident received this phone call, he hung up giving the individual none of his information. The resident verified online that he had not won the Mega Millions and in turn notified this Department of the phone call.
Chief Wenner warns the public to be vigilant with phone calls that may be received as there are many different scams presently occurring. He advises to never give any personal information out to anyone on the phone before verifying the phone call is not a scam. If there is any question that you have been a victim of a scam or to report a possible scam, please contact your appropriate local law enforcement agency and advise them of the incident.
