Sugarcreek Police were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident on October 3, 2019 at 12:22 PM, in the area of 258 Allenbaugh Road.
When officer arrived on scene he was advised the driver, later identified as Oakley Sanford, had left the scene running and had black backpack.
Sanford was found a short time later in the 500 block of Meadville Pike.
Sanford gave a false name and date of birth. A digital scale was located in his backpack.
While at Sugarcreek police department Sanford tried to pick open his handcuff lock with a paperclip.
Sanford did consent to a blood draw.
Sanford was charged with Possession of Instruments of a Crime, Attempt Escape, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, D.U.I. Drugs, False Reports to Law Enforcement, Accident Involving Damage to Attended Vehicle or Property and Duty to Give Information or Render Aid.
Sanford was arraigned by Magistrate Kirtland and placed in Venango County Jail on $7,500 bail.
