PennDOT, Safety Partners Holding Car Seat Safety Check

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and PA Traffic Injury Prevention Project (TIPP) will hold a free car seat check at the Franklin Fire Department.

The seat check will be held from 1 PM to 4 PM Thursday, August 17 in the lot behind the fire department at 113 13th Street, Franklin. Attendees can access the seat check from Elk Street. Walk-ins are welcome and participants are encouraged to take the owner’s manuals for their vehicles and car seats.

Pennsylvania law requires children under age 2 must be secured in a rear-facing car seat until the child outgrows the maximum weight and height limits designated by the car seat manufacturer. Children age 2 to 8 must be buckled into a car or booster seat that is appropriate for the child’s age, height and weight.

Nationally Certified Car Seat Technicians will be on hand to inspect car and booster seats, to ensure the seats are properly secured into the vehicles, and to check that children are correctly buckled up. Seats will also be evaluated for possible expirations, recalls, or damage.
