The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce, the Franklin Alliance Church, and the City of Franklin will hold a free children’s bicycle rodeo on June 29.

The rodeo will take place in the parking lot of the Franklin Alliance Church, 1200 Otter Street in Franklin. The event is open to ages 5 to 12. Registration will begin at 6 PM, with activities from 6:30 PM through 7:30 PM. All attendees should bring a bike and helmet and be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can sign a permission slip for participation.

The rodeo will consist of safety activities and games, bicycle inspections, and helmet inspections. Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education (A.B.A.T.E) of Venango County will award a free bicycle to one attendee and the Franklin Alliance Church and Franklin Chamber of Commerce will provide a hot dog dinner and snacks.

Wearing a helmet is required for participation in the rodeo. A limited number of free helmets will be available complements of Safe Kids Clarion-Venango. The goal of the children’s bike rodeo is to interest kids in bicycling, educate them on safety requirements, and instill in them safe biking habits.

This free event is made possible through the additional support of: State Farm Agent Mike Dill, Cub Scout Pack 37, Rep. R. Lee James, the Venango Sherriff’s Office, and UPMC Northwest.
